Use case - acquisition to activation
See one funnel from ad click to activated user
Marketing and product each declare victory or blame the other from two different, disconnected datasets, and the campaign that actually produced engaged users never gets identified as the one to repeat.
In short
We connect the ad click, the signup event, and the in-product activation moment into a single funnel with one shared identity, so a campaign's real success is measured by activated users, not just clicks or signups counted separately. Marketing and product finally look at the same number.
The situation
Marketing reports a great campaign because signups spiked, but three weeks later product can't find any of those users still active in the app.
What we implement
We stitch the ad click, the signup event, and the first-value moment together under one identity across your ad platforms and your product - what's called cross-channel funnel attribution - so the whole path is one report instead of three.
What you get
- One number for 'this campaign produced activated users,' agreed by marketing and product
- Budget shifted toward the channel that produces engaged users, not just cheap signups
- An end to the recurring argument about whose metric is the real one
Illustrative
A team running paid campaigns on two platforms might find that the channel with the lower cost per signup actually produces fewer activated users once the funnel is followed through - meaning the 'cheaper' channel was the more expensive one per real customer all along. (Illustrative scenario - not a measured result.)

Frequently asked questions
Does this require us to track ad spend inside Amplitude?+
No - it requires passing a consistent identifier (a click ID or UTM-derived value) from the ad click through to the signup and activation events, so Amplitude can join the path. Spend and cost data can be compared alongside it in a separate report or your ad platform.
What if a user signs up on one device and activates on another?+
That's an identity-resolution problem, not an attribution one - it's solved by setting the same user ID at login on every device, which lets Amplitude merge the sessions into one journey regardless of where activation happened.
